Safari Portal's Model Context Protocol (MCP) server allows compatible AI assistants to securely access your Safari Portal data.
Once connected, you can ask questions about your business, generate reports, analyse your data, and even create contact profiles directly from your AI assistant.
Whether you're looking for business insights, automating repetitive tasks, or simply spending less time searching for information, the MCP server gives your AI assistant secure access to your Safari Portal account.
Note: The Safari Portal MCP server is currently in beta. We'd love your feedback as we continue expanding its capabilities.
Before you begin
Only Account Admins can generate an MCP connection.
At the moment, the MCP server supports:
- Reading your Files Dashboard data
- Reading your Contact data
- Creating Contact Profiles (optional write permission)
We'll continue adding additional tools and capabilities throughout the beta.
Step 1: Generate your Safari Portal connection
- Go to Settings.
- Select Integrations.
- Scroll to AI Assistants.
- Click Manage.
If you belong to multiple Safari Portal accounts, you'll see a connection for each account.
Copy the connection URL for the account you'd like your AI assistant to access.
Most users will only see a single connection.
Step 2: Add the connector to your AI assistant
Safari Portal can be connected to any AI assistant that supports MCP, including ChatGPT, Claude, and other compatible platforms.
Within your AI assistant, navigate to its Connectors, Integrations, Tools, or MCP settings and add a new custom connector using the Safari Portal connection URL you copied in Step 1.
For example:
Claude
Navigate to:
Customize → Connect → Add Connector → Add Custom Connector
Paste your Safari Portal connection URL and click Connect.
ChatGPT
Navigate to your MCP or Connector settings (depending on your ChatGPT version) and add a new custom MCP server using your Safari Portal connection URL.
Step 3: Authorize access
Your browser will redirect back to Safari Portal.
Important: If you would like your AI assistant to be able to create Contact Profiles, you must click the box at the bottom to enable:
Allow the application to create or change contacts
If you leave this unchecked, your AI assistant will have read-only access.
Click Authorize, then Allow to complete the connection.
Your AI assistant is now connected to Safari Portal.
Permissions
Currently, the MCP server supports two permission levels.
Read-only access
Your AI assistant can securely read information from Safari Portal and answer questions about your business.
Create Contact Profiles
If enabled during setup, your AI assistant can also create new Contact Profiles.
At this stage, creating Contact Profiles is the only write permission available. All other capabilities are currently read-only.
What can you do?
Once connected, your AI assistant can securely access your Safari Portal data to answer questions, generate reports, uncover insights, and automate repetitive tasks.
Here are just a few examples of what's already possible.
📊 Reporting & analytics
Ask questions about your business and uncover insights from your Safari Portal data in seconds.
For example:
- What is our conversion rate by trip type?
- What is our conversion rate by travel region?
- Which partner agent has the highest conversion rate?
- Which partner agent sends us the most enquiries?
- Have enquiries from any partner agents significantly declined?
- How long does it take us to convert a File on average?
- Show me departures by month.
- Show me confirmed trips by lead source.
- Forecast our profitability.
Because your AI assistant understands your data, you can continue asking follow-up questions naturally to explore your business in more detail.
💰 Financial intelligence
Your AI assistant can also analyse your Financials data to answer questions about revenue, profitability, suppliers, invoices, and payments.
For example:
- How much have we paid {supplier}?
- How much do we currently owe {supplier}?
- What is our revenue this year?
- What is our profitability this month or year?
- How much do we currently owe in USD, EUR, or another currency?
- How much has {client} paid us?
- How much does {client} still owe us?
- Show me our recent payments.
- Show me all outstanding payments.
- Which invoices are overdue?
🤖 Workflow automation
Your AI assistant can also help automate repetitive administrative tasks.
For example, you can ask it to:
- Create contact profiles from information copied from an email.
- Create contact profiles from a spreadsheet or document.
- Create a contact profile simply by describing the traveler.
- (Coming soon) Create tasks and automatically attach them to the correct File.
- (Coming soon) Help automate even more of your day-to-day Safari Portal workflows.
For example:
Create a Contact Profile for Jackson West. Date of birth is 16 November 2011. Dietary preference is gluten free.
This is especially useful when a supplier or client emails you traveller information — you can simply copy and paste the details into your AI assistant and ask it to create the contact profiles for you.
Current limitations
As this is an early beta, there are still some limitations.
For example:
- Bednight reporting is not yet supported.
- Your AI assistant cannot yet answer questions about individual itinerary events.
- It cannot currently answer questions such as:
- Which travelers will be in Nairobi on a particular weekend?
- Which files include a specific itinerary event?
These capabilities will be added as we continue expanding the MCP server alongside future Superbuilder releases.
