Help! The "Help & Updates" button isn't appearing
Because this is usually due to browser issues, try a hard refresh, disabling extensions, or checking your internet speed to fix the widget.

The "Help & Updates" widget lives in the bottom-left corner of every page in Safari Portal. It gives you quick access to help articles, interactive tutorials, and product updates.

Occasionally, the widget may not appear or may disappear mid-session. This is almost always a browser-side issue rather than a problem with your Safari Portal account. Here are the most common causes and how to fix them.

Step 1: Switch modules or close tabs

If the widget disappeared mid-session, this can happen as a quirk of how the widget loads between page navigations.

  • Switch modules and come back. Navigate to a different section of Safari Portal (e.g., go to the Contacts module, then back to the Files dashboard). This often triggers the widget to reload and reappear.
  • Close and reopen your browser tab. Close the Safari Portal tab entirely, then reopen it and log back in.

Step 2: Hard refresh or clear your cache

If the widget never appears when you first log in, try a hard refresh to clear your browser's cached version of the page.

  • Hard refresh the page. Hold Ctrl + F5 on Windows or Cmd + Shift + R on Mac. This forces your browser to reload the page fresh rather than from cache.
  • Clear your browser cache. If a hard refresh doesn't work, clearing your full cache can help. In most browsers, you can find this under Settings โ†’ Privacy โ†’ Clear browsing data. After clearing, reload Safari Portal.

๐Ÿ“Œ Tip: A regular refresh (F5 or Cmd+R) won't always fix this โ€” the hard refresh or cache clear is what does the trick.

Step 3: Examine your browser extensions

Ad blockers, privacy extensions, and certain security tools can sometimes prevent third-party widgets from loading.

  • Disable extensions temporarily. Try opening Safari Portal in a private/incognito window, which usually runs without extensions. If the widget appears there, an extension is the culprit. Go back to your regular browser, disable all extension, then re-enable extensions one at a time to identify which one is blocking it.
  • Add Safari Portal to your ad blocker's allowlist. Most ad blockers let you whitelist specific sites. Allow safariportal.app and reload the page.

Step 4: Update your browser

The widget relies on modern browser features. Older browser versions can cause it to fail silently.

  • Check for browser updates.
    • In Chrome, go to the three-dot menu โ†’ Help โ†’ About Google Chrome to check for and install updates.
    • In Safari, updates come through macOS System Settings. After updating, restart your browser and reload Safari Portal.

Step 5: Check that your internet connection isn't too slow to load the widget

The widget loads as a separate resource alongside Safari Portal. On a slow or unstable connection, it may time out before it fully loads.

  • Check your connection speed. Try loading another site or running a quick speed test (we recommend Speed Test by Ookla). If your connection is slow, try moving closer to your router, switching networks, or waiting for a more stable connection.

Step 6: Check where you're using Safari Portal

The "Help & Updates" widget is optimized for desktop browsers. On tablets, it may occasionally not load. This is a known limitation and not something specific to your account or device. For the best experience, we recommend accessing Safari Portal from a desktop or laptop browser.
