The best practice for creating dining guides or restaurant recommendations is to start by building individual pages for each restaurant. This approach gives you the flexibility to curate tailored guides for different audiences or cities using lookbooks or the block element, while also allowing you to repurpose the same content if a restaurant is booked as part of an itinerary.
At its core, Safari Portal is designed to let you layer content in multiple ways. This is a perfect example of the platform’s versatility and the depth of experiences you can create.
Adding restaurants individually
Option 1: Insert a restaurant with the Block Element
Best If...
You like to include restaurant recommendations in your proposals, but the ones you select change often.
Example
Shirley loves to include a restaurant recommendation or two in an itinerary. She creates pages for her favorite restaurants in her Content Library, then inserts them with the Block Element in the Element Library wherever a recommendation makes sense.
Instructions
- In the "Itinerary" or "Lookbook" tab, open the Element Library (blue circle with a plus icon).
- Select the Block Element.
- Search for and select the restaurant.
- The content from the restaurant page will be inserted into the itinerary. You're done!

Option 2: Insert a restaurant as an event

Best If...
You regularly use Calendar Builder and frequently add the same restaurants to itineraries.
Instructions
- Add an Activity to a day in the Calendar Builder.
- Select the restaurant page.

- Choose an icon and add any notes.
- Click Save for Future Use. The restaurant will be added as an event to the itinerary, and Safari Portal will remember your notes, icons, and more the next time you add it to an itinerary!

For Classic builder, you can always @mention an individual restaurant page as needed, from the Details tab.
Creating restaurant lists
If you regularly recommend the same set of restaurants, creating lists can save time and provide a consistent experience for your clients.
Option 1: Make a restaurant list content page
Best if...
You frequently recommend the same set of restaurants and want to include them inside itineraries or lookbooks.
Example
Check out a sample here of Cape Town suggested restaurants.
Instructions
- Create a new Miscellaneous Page in the Content Library.
- Pro Tip: Add "restaurant list" as a tag for easy searching later.
- Using the Element Library (blue circle with a plus icon), select the Block Element and insert the restaurant pages.
- When working in in itineraries or lookbooks, search for the page and insert it into the itinerary. If restaurant details change, update the individual pages, then use Apply Updates to update them throughout your proposals.
Option 2: Insert restaurants into a lookbook

Best If...
You want to share restaurant recommendations as a standalone guide, separate from itineraries.
Example
Alto specializes in trips to South Africa, Spain, and the Baltics. He always recommends the same restaurants in each region. Instead of sending Word docs that get outdated, he creates three lookbooks—one for each region. Now, his clients always have the latest information, and he only needs to manage three links.
Check out Alto's Cape Town lookbook.
Instructions
- Create a new lookbook.
- Insert your restaurant pages under "Information Pages from Content Library."
- Pro Tip: Add "restaurant" as a tag for easy searching later.
- Share the lookbook with clients.
- If restaurant details change, update the individual pages, then use Apply Updates to update them throughout your proposals.

By using these methods, you can easily organize and share restaurant recommendations in a way that fits your workflow—whether it's adding them individually, as events, or in curated lists.
