Understanding the app experience
Learn how travelers navigate within the Travel Portal app.

The app home screen

When a traveler opens the Travel Portal app (or any custom app), the first screen they will see is the cover page for the most recent experience shared with them, or the experience containing their next upcoming trip.

This could be an itinerary, Lookbook, or Travel Dashboard.

The cover page includes a trip countdown and serves as a quick way for travelers to jump directly into their most relevant travel experience.

From here, travelers can:

  • Open that experience directly;
  • Tap All Trips to see everything that has been shared with them;
  • Make the experience available offline; or
  • Open the Messages center.

The All Trips screen

When a traveler taps All Trips, everything that has been shared with them is organized into one simple view.

Rather than separating itineraries, Lookbooks, and Travel Dashboards into different tabs, travelers can filter their experiences using three options:

Upcoming

Upcoming includes current and upcoming travel experiences, including trips that are still in the planning stage as well as confirmed trips.

Past

Once a trip has passed, it will automatically move into Past, making it easy for travelers to return to information from previous trips without cluttering their upcoming travel.

Archived

Travelers can move any trip or experience to Archived at any time if they no longer want it displayed under Upcoming or Past.

Archiving something in the app is completely controlled by the traveler and does not affect the File or its status in your Safari Portal account. Similarly, archiving a File within Safari Portal does not automatically archive it in the traveler's app. (However, if you deactivate it, it will be removed from the traveler app.)

Travelers can also choose to delete an experience from their app entirely.

How trips appear in the app

What travelers see in All Trips depends on what has been shared with them and how their Travel Dashboard is set up.

Travel Dashboards with an itinerary

When a Travel Dashboard contains an itinerary, the itinerary becomes the primary trip card displayed in the app.

The card uses the itinerary cover image and gives the traveler two ways to access their trip:

  • Itinerary — opens the itinerary directly.
  • Information — opens the immersive trip information screens, where the traveler can then continue into their full Travel Dashboard.

This gives travelers quick access to their day-by-day itinerary while keeping all of the additional resources from their Travel Dashboard easily accessible.

Travel Dashboards with multiple itineraries

If a Travel Dashboard contains multiple itineraries, each itinerary will appear as its own card in the app.

Each card provides direct access to that itinerary, along with an Information button for accessing the immersive trip information screens and Travel Dashboard.

Travel Dashboards without an itinerary

A Travel Dashboard does not need to contain an itinerary to appear in the app.

If a Travel Dashboard has no itineraries, it will appear as its own card under Upcoming.

Travelers can tap Information to open the immersive trip information screens and continue into the Travel Dashboard.

Itineraries and Lookbooks shared separately

An itinerary or Lookbook can also appear independently in the app when it has been:

  • Shared directly with the traveler outside of a Travel Dashboard; or
  • Manually added to the traveler's app.

In this case, the itinerary or Lookbook will have its own card.

Opening the card takes the traveler through the immersive screens and then into the itinerary or Lookbook.

A simpler way to navigate travel

The app organizes everything around the trip itself, rather than separating different types of content into different tabs.

Travelers can simply open All Trips and use Upcoming, Past, or Archived to find what they're looking for.

For trips connected to a Travel Dashboard, they can jump directly into their itinerary or select Information to access the additional trip information and resources you've shared with them.

Using the Travel Portal app as a tour operator, advisor, or DMC

If you're using the Travel Portal app as an advisor, tour operator, or DMC, it's important to note that Files from your Safari Portal account do not automatically sync to your app.

This is intentional. Automatically syncing every itinerary, Lookbook, and Travel Dashboard from your account could consume a significant amount of storage space on your device.

To access an experience within the app, you must either:

  • Share the itinerary, Lookbook, or Travel Dashboard with yourself via email; or
  • Open the experience on your phone or tablet and manually add it to your app.

For most advisors, we recommend accessing Safari Portal directly from your mobile browser instead of relying on the traveler app for day-to-day work.

Simply navigate to account.safariportal.app from your phone or tablet browser. From there, you'll have access to the same Files, workflows, and functionality available in the desktop version of Safari Portal without needing to sync content to your device.
