Safari Portal offers API capabilities that allow you to connect your existing systems, automate workflows, synchronize data, and programmatically create itineraries.
Whether you're connecting your CRM, website, accounting platform, reporting tools, or quotation system, our APIs help reduce manual work and streamline your operations.
Understanding Safari Portal's Two APIs
Safari Portal currently supports two distinct APIs, each designed for different purposes.
| Connect API | Itinerary Building API (Legacy) | |
|---|---|---|
Primary purpose | Connect external systems, synchronize data, and automate workflows | Programmatically generate itineraries from external quotation systems |
Common use cases | CRM integrations, lead capture, contact management, reporting, accounting, and workflow automation | Generate itineraries directly from Tourplan or other quotation systems |
Availability | Beta — accepting new integrations | Supported for existing integrations |
New integrations | Recommended | Not recommended at this time |
Future development | Will expand to support programmatic itinerary creation | Functionality will transition to the Connect API |
Our APIs are evolving. As we continue rolling out Superbuilder, we're working toward a unified Connect API that will support both operational integrations and programmatic itinerary creation.
Our existing Itinerary Building API is considered a legacy API. It remains supported for existing integrations, but we do not recommend using it for new development, as its architecture will change to accommodate Superbuilder.
Please note: Programmatic itinerary creation through the Connect API will be subject to an additional fee once available. Pricing and availability will be communicated closer to launch.
1. Connect API
Connect Safari Portal with your existing systems and automate your workflows.
The Connect API allows you to integrate Safari Portal with other platforms and automate many of the tasks that would otherwise be performed manually.
Whether you're connecting your CRM, website, accounting software, reporting tools, or internal applications, the Connect API provides the flexibility to build workflows tailored to your business.
Automatically Capture New Enquiries
Automatically create new Files in Safari Portal from enquiries submitted through your website, Typeform, Meta Lead Ads, or other lead sources.
Some of the things you can do include:
- Create new Files automatically
- Create and update Contacts
- Apply tags
- Assign pipeline stages
- Capture enquiry details without manual data entry
- Record important client information, including birthdays, anniversaries, and custom fields
This allows new enquiries to enter Safari Portal already organized and ready for your team.
Keep Your Workflows in Sync
If you manage parts of your business in another system, the Connect API can help keep Safari Portal synchronized.
For example, you can:
- Move Files between pipeline stages
- Reassign sales consultants or trip leaders
- Update priorities, tags, and classifications
- Synchronize information between Safari Portal and your existing CRM or operational systems
Build Custom Reporting and Dashboards
Connect Safari Portal to business intelligence and reporting tools to gain deeper insights into your business.
Potential integrations include:
- Metabase
- Looker
- Microsoft Power BI
- Google Sheets
- Internal reporting platforms
You can build custom reports to analyze:
- Revenue by consultant
- Conversion rates by lead source
- Trip performance and profitability
- Seasonal booking trends
- Sales pipeline performance
- Supplier performance
- Other business-specific metrics
Connect Your Accounting Workflows
Use the Connect API to integrate Safari Portal with your financial and bookkeeping processes.
Depending on the endpoints available, integrations can support workflows such as:
- Exporting invoices
- Retrieving payment information
- Tracking outstanding balances
- Synchronizing invoice data with accounting software
- Building custom collections or payment reminder workflows
Note: We also have a direct Quickbooks integration, and other accounting software integrations are on the roadmap.
Improve Operations and Client Service
The Connect API can also support operational workflows, including:
- Sharing traveler information with operational systems or suppliers
- Transferring relevant traveler requirements securely
- Creating operational checklists
- Generating departure reports
- Sending automated updates to Slack or Microsoft Teams
- Triggering internal workflows based on trip activity
Build Custom Integrations
The Connect API can be used to build integrations with a wide range of external systems, including CRM platforms, marketing automation tools, accounting software, reporting platforms, and custom internal applications.
Availability: The Connect API is currently in beta. Access is granted on a per-account basis, and a developer is required to build and maintain your integration.
To request access, please contact Safari Portal Support.
2. Itinerary Building API (Legacy)
Programmatically generate Safari Portal itineraries from external quotation systems.
Safari Portal also supports an existing API designed specifically for programmatic itinerary creation.
This API allows travel companies using compatible quotation systems to generate Safari Portal itineraries directly from their existing workflows.
For example, a tour operator can build a quote in their quotation system and generate a corresponding Safari Portal itinerary link with the click of a button.
Existing Integrations
Integrations have been established with:
- Tourplan
- Pink Elephant
- Sugati
- Custom quotation platforms
How It Works
The integration connects service items in your quotation system with corresponding Content Pages in Safari Portal.
During the initial setup, these items are mapped to your Safari Portal Content Library. Once configured, your quotation system can use this mapping to generate itineraries programmatically.
This eliminates the need to manually recreate itinerary content in Safari Portal after preparing a quote.
Important Information for New Integrations
The existing Itinerary Building API is a legacy API. It remains supported for existing integrations, but is not recommended for new development.
As we continue rolling out Superbuilder, Safari Portal's next-generation itinerary and content builder, our itinerary-building architecture is evolving.
Existing integrations remain supported. However, if you're considering a new integration, we recommend waiting until programmatic itinerary creation becomes available through the Connect API.
This will help avoid investing development resources in an integration that will need to be updated as our platform evolves.
3. What's Next? A Unified Connect API
We're working toward a single, more powerful API for Safari Portal.
As Superbuilder continues to roll out, our goal is to consolidate our integration capabilities into the Connect API.
This means that, in the future, developers will be able to use the same API framework to:
- Create and update Contacts and Files
- Synchronize data with external systems
- Automate operational and financial workflows
- Build custom reporting and integrations
- Programmatically generate Safari Portal itineraries
Bringing these capabilities together will provide a more consistent and flexible integration experience, making it easier for travel companies to connect Safari Portal with their existing technology.
Availability and Pricing
We do not yet have a confirmed release date for programmatic itinerary creation through the Connect API.
Once available, programmatic itinerary creation through the API will incur an additional fee. Further details about pricing and availability will be shared closer to launch.
4. API Security & Permissions
Safari Portal API integrations use scoped permissions, allowing integrations to access only the data and functionality they require.
API access is granted on a per-account basis and can be revoked through Safari Portal settings.
We recommend working with a qualified developer to ensure integrations are configured securely and that sensitive client information is handled appropriately.
5. Request API Access
Interested in connecting your systems to Safari Portal?
The Connect API is currently available through a beta program.
To request access or discuss a potential integration, please contact Safari Portal Support or email [email protected].
When reaching out, it's helpful to include:
- The platform or system you'd like to connect
- What information you'd like to synchronize
- Which workflows you'd like to automate
- Whether you're interested in future programmatic itinerary creation capabilities
Our team can help you understand which API capabilities are currently available and whether your proposed integration is supported.
Please note: A developer is required to build and maintain custom API integrations. API access does not automatically provide a ready-made connection to third-party platforms.
