Configuring Credit Card Payments & Surcharges in Invoices
When creating invoices, you can choose whether to allow clients to pay by credit card. If you enable credit card payments, you also have the option to:
- Include card processing fees in the total invoice amount (card processing fees are included in the total amount you are invoicing for).
- Add a separate card surcharge (clients see the card processing fee as an additional charge).

How Card Surcharges Work
- If you add a surcharge, the percentage you enter will be added to the amount the client pays.
- This surcharge may not exactly match processing fees—it could be slightly more or less. You have full control over the percentage you set.
What Clients See on Their Invoice
- After clicking Pay Now, a modal appears, giving them the choice to pay by credit card or other methods.
- If they choose credit card, the modal will clearly display the surcharge percentage before they proceed.
- On the final payment screen, the card processing fee is listed separately from the main invoice amount.

Important Notes
- Credit card surcharges are regulated differently by region and card provider. It’s your responsibility to ensure compliance.
- This surcharge feature is only available if card payments are not enabled directly in Stripe. Please review this help article for more information.
By configuring these settings upfront, you can streamline payment processing, maintain transparency with clients, and eliminate the need for uncomfortable conversations about additional fees and invoice revisions. 🚀
