Create your own Custom Fields and customize traveler contact profiles
Create and arrange custom fields, then make them Smart so traveler Form responses save automatically to their profiles.

The Custom Fields feature lets you customize your Traveler Contact Profiles to work the way your business does.

You can create your own custom fields to capture the traveler information that matters to you, and rearrange Safari Portal’s built-in fields so the most important information appears exactly where you want it.

You can also make custom fields Smart Fields by connecting them to questions on your Forms. When a traveler submits a Form, their answers can automatically save to the corresponding fields on their Contact Profile — giving you organized, reusable traveler data without having to update profiles manually.

Note: Custom Fields are available on Tier II accounts and above. You’ll also need the “Create, edit, and delete custom fields” permission to create or manage them.

Custom Contact Profiles

Custom Contact Profiles let you create your own fields for Traveler Contacts, giving you the flexibility to capture and organize information beyond Safari Portal’s built-in fields.

You can also turn custom fields into Smart Fields. When a traveler answers a Form question mapped to a Smart Field, their response is automatically saved to the corresponding field on their Contact Profile — no manual updating required.

Create a Custom Field

  1. Go to Contacts in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the Travelers tab.
  3. Click More Options in the top-right corner.
  4. Select Custom Fields.
  5. Choose where you’d like your field to appear: Personal Information, General, Health & Dietary, or Preferences.
  6. Click New Custom Field.
  7. Enter a Field Name.
  8. Choose a Field Type: Text, Date, or Select.
  9. If you choose Select, add your dropdown options. You can rename, remove, and reorder options, or turn on Allow multiple selections if travelers should be able to choose more than one.
  10. Click Save.

📌 Note: Select fields must have at least one option before they can be created.

Connect a Custom Field to a Form

Once you’ve created a custom field, you can map a question on a Form to it. This turns it into a Smart Field, so the traveler’s answer automatically updates their Contact Profile.

Important: The custom field and Form input types need to be compatible:

  • Text fields → Short Answer or Long Answer inputs
  • Date fields → Date inputs
  • Select fields → Select inputs

To connect them:

  1. Open your Form and go to the Form Builder tab.
  2. Hover over the question you want to connect and click the pencil icon.
  3. In the Edit Element panel, find Smart Field.
  4. Use the Select Field dropdown to choose the custom field you want the answer saved to.
  5. Click Update.

That’s it! The next time a traveler answers that question, their response will automatically be saved to the corresponding field on their Contact Profile.

Tips & Tricks

  • Built-in fields can’t be edited or deleted, but you can drag and drop them to reorder them alongside your custom fields.
  • To edit or delete a custom field, use the icons next to the field. You’ll be asked to confirm before deleting one.
  • Custom Fields are account-wide. Once created, they’re immediately available to everyone on your account who has access to Traveler Contacts.
  • Within Personal Information, you can choose which fields are immediately visible on a Contact Profile. Drag fields above or below the Show More section to control where they appear.
  • If you edit a custom field that’s already connected to one or more Forms, you’ll see a “Heads up!” message showing which Forms use it. Depending on what you change, you may need to update those Form questions to keep answers syncing correctly.
  • If you don’t see Custom Fields under More Options, or you’re prompted to contact your account admin, you don’t currently have the “Create, edit, and delete custom fields” permission.
